Your First Yoga Class at The Open Mind Center
So, you’ve made the decision to better yourself emotionally, spiritually, and physically by starting to practice yoga. Congratulations! Now it’s up to you to take another important step forward and actually attend a yoga class. We understand it can be tough to just get up and go. You may think your schedule won’t give you any time to go to a class. Maybe you’re worried about the price. Maybe you feel intimidated by the idea of teachers and long-practicing students who will be impatient with a beginner like yourself. Don’t worry! At the Open Mind Center, we’ve made taking the step of going to a yoga class for first-time students incredibly simple.

Are you aware of all the classes we offer? Click this yoga classes link to read all about them and decide which one appeals to you most. For beginning yogis, we recommend trying either a Basics or Gentle Yoga class, depending on your comfort level. If you’ve had a few yoga classes before somewhere else or practiced at home, you could try an All Levels class.
Worried about being judged as a new student? Don’t be. The Open Mind Center is a safe, welcoming, supportive environment for everybody. All our yoga classes are led by gifted and certified teachers whose main focus is making every student feel comfortable, relaxed, challenged, and renewed, no matter if it’s a student’s first class or their fiftieth.
We have yoga classes every day of the week, with classes in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Now that you’ve claimed your free class, decided what you want to take and when, it’s time to get ready to show up and take your class.
What should you bring to your first class? Start by wearing comfortable clothing! If you own one, bring your yoga mat. A bottle of water, a towel, a change of clothes…less is more, but we do provide space for you to place your belongings in the yoga studio.
Please arrive at least ten minutes early to your first, and any yoga class. For your first class, you’ll need some time to fill out basic paperwork. For the other classes, it’s good manners to arrive in a timely fashion so you’re not having to sneak in after class has started and interrupt the teacher and other students.
Always check in at the front desk on arrival. One of our staff members will be happy to walk you through the simple check in process until you get the hang of it.
Turn off your cell phones before class!
Review our “Yoga Etiquette” rules at either the front counter or on the door of the yoga studio. Following these rules will make the yoga class comfortable and enjoyable for you and your fellow yogis.
Once you’ve had your free class, don’t stop! It takes a few weeks of consistent yoga practice in order to start seeing lasting results, and making yoga a daily or weekly habit will enrich your life in ways you never thought possible.
