YOGA FOR BEGINNERS | A PRIMER
Why Yoga? Why Not?
Are you stressed? Looking for a way to become healthier and happier? Do you want to take personal responsibility for your own life? The process of self-development is the act of taking personal responsibility for one’s own learning and development through the practice of assessment, reflection, and action. The first steps toward personal development are identifying its need. By conquering your fears and surmounting obstacles, you can achieve an infinite number of goals.
Yoga is a practice that is both helpful and healthful in your journey to a better you!
Yoga is a combination of physical exercise, spiritual practice and emotional release. We were never meant to sit still all day long, whether in front of a computer, a television, or in a car. Physical activity is so important to health, so much so that being sedentary is now touted as being as dangerous as smoking. Besides the physical benefits, yoga reduces stress, releases tensions, and calms your mind.
As a beginning yogi, one of the most important things you should do is release all your preconceived notions about how yoga is “supposed” to be. If you imagine yoga is about tying yourself into a knot while balancing on your big toe, get rid of that idea. Yoga is all about balance between the body, mind, and breath. It doesn’t matter if you can’t hold the poses or bend a certain way -what matters is how you feel at the end of a session. If you feel relaxed, at peace, and better than you did than when you came in, then that’s all yoga needs to be for you.
Starting a yoga practice is a simple and logical choice when you consider all the benefits it has to offer. We can tell you about how wonderful it is over and over, but until you decide to take responsibility for yourself and take your first class, you’ll be missing out on a truly rewarding experience that will change your life for the better.
At The Open Mind Center, we understand that it can be intimidating to begin a new and healthy way of living, but don’t worry.
