What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing art form. The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words – Rei which means “universal”, as in present everywhere, and Ki, or Qi, which means “life energy”, referring to the vital life force or universal life force. It is the God-Consciousness (Rei) that guides this life force energy (Ki) to flow through us as long as we are alive. Ki flows through our bodies using pathways such as chakras and meridians. It also flows through our auric field. The free and balanced flow of the universal life energy is health.

Ki responds to thoughts and feelings. Positivity will cause healthy energy flow, and negativity can cause disrupted or diminished energy flow causing us to feel less than healthy. When we accept negative, faulty thoughts or beliefs about ourselves, it can cause a more permanent disruption in our Ki. These blockages can eventually lead to diminishing Ki in our physical body. This is where health problems begin. The location of these blockages can cause the life force energy to diminish in certain organs or areas in the same vicinity.

In a Reiki treatment, the God-Consciousness, or Rei, is brought into the equation to assess the energy and direct the healing energy to the block that needs to be addressed in that moment. This healing Rei energy can charge the blockage until in breaks apart and dissipates, or it can lift it out of the body to be processed in the ethers. Once a block is removed, the Reiki energy is left where the block once was; you can continue healing long after your Reiki session. As in all energy healing, the Reiki energy will be as powerful as you allow it to be as it raises the vibratory level in and around the body.

Reiki can do anything from promote relaxation to pain alleviation and the healing of disease (or as we like to call it dis-ease, as it is caused by disharmony) on a physical level. It also restores clarity and vitality on a mental level, and higher self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence on an emotional level. People who have experienced Reiki tend to experience fewer negative thoughts and feelings including anger, self degradation, and fear. They also tend to be happier and healthier on all levels of being.
